Leather Care Guide

The Golden Rule

Never use alcohol, hand sanitizer, or disinfectant wipes. They strip the protective finish and natural oils, leading to rapid drying, cracking, and color fading.

General Maintenance

  • Routine Cleaning: Wipe down the exterior weekly using a dry or slightly damp microfiber cloth.

  • Conditioning (Crucial Step): Apply a small amount of specialized leather cream or conditioner every 3 to 6 months. This keeps the natural fibers supple and prevents long-term cracking. Always spot-test on an inconspicuous area first.

  • Bags:

    • Stuff bags with acid-free tissue paper or bubble wrap when not in use to preserve their structural shape.

    • Store in breathable cotton or canvas dust bags—never plastic bags, which trap moisture and foster mold growth.

  • Wallets:

    • Avoid overfilling card slots (stick to one card per slot) to prevent permanent leather stretching.

    • Empty contents monthly and run a lint roller inside the cash pockets to clear out dust and debris.

  • Belts:

    • Rotate belts between wear days to allow the leather to rest and release tension.

    • Store by hanging them vertically from a belt loop; avoid tight rolling, which causes creases and cracks over time.

  • Hardware & Linings:

    • Wipe metal zippers and buckles with a dry cloth to prevent tarnishing.

    • Pull fabric bag linings inside-out periodically to gently brush or lint-roll away stray dust.

Storage & Climate Control

  • Store in a cool, well-ventilated, dry place out of direct sunlight.

  • Keep leather away from direct contact with non-breathable surfaces.

  • Humidity Tip: Place reusable silica gel packets inside storage dust bags to absorb excess ambient moisture and prevent mold or mildew.

Emergency Care

  • If Wet:

    • Don't Panic: Do not use hair dryers, heaters, or direct sunlight to speed up drying, as high heat warps, shrinks, and cracks the leather.

    • Dry Naturally: Immediately blot excess liquid with a clean, absorbent towel. Let the item air-dry naturally in a cool, shaded area with good airflow.

  • Spills & Stains:

    • Blot (never rub) liquid spills immediately to prevent the stain from penetrating deeper into the leather fibers.
